Practical Handgun Skills Workshop

No classes scheduled at this time.

This workshop is a dynamic skills drill day where we will focus on repetition of drills geared to improve your shooting fundamentals. We will work from a holster, so if you are new to handgun shooting, this may not be the class for you (we do offer private lessons and basic classes to get you up-to-speed). I would prefer that all attendees have had prior training working from a holster as we are going to move quickly into the skills drills.

The day will be divided into two sessions, 8 am - noon, and 1 pm - 5 pm with a 1 hour lunch break in between. A full-day admission ticket will get you into both sessions (different skills drills in each). A half-day admission ticket will get you into either the morning or the afternoon session. Each session will begin with sign-in and a safety briefing promptly at the start time. YOU MUST BE PRESENT for this safety briefing to participate in the corresponding session.

  1. $60 for half-day

  2. $100 for full-day

Examples of skills we will work on:

  • Presentation from the holster (concealment garment preferred)

  • Rapid first shot

  • Balance of speed and precision

  • Speed/Emergency reloads

  • One handed shooting

  • Malfunction clearing

  • Shooting from horizontal cover

  • Shooting from vertical cover

  • Lateral movement

  • Forward/backward movement

  • Transitioning between multiple targets

  • Precision shooting from distances (15 - 25 yards)

No two sessions will be the same! After the safety briefing, we will work on warm-up drills for presentation from the holster, quick first hits, and then transition into that session's topics. Every session will culminate with a drill or test that you will perform competitively against your peers for that session's TOP SHOOTER award.

  • Quality holster

  • A minimum of 3 magazines or speed loaders for your handgun

  • A magazine pouch/holder for at least 2 of your spare magazines or speed loaders

  • A sturdy belt, to support the above

  • Hearing protection

  • Eye protection

  • Billed cap or other brimmed headwear

  • 250 rounds of ammunition for half-day, 500 for full-day

Please note that the above list is just the essentials. You may bring additional items (such as a range bag, extra magazines, folding chairs and tables, tarps, canopy, etc.), if you choose.

Our range location has a portable toilet, but not running water. For your comfort, you might want to bring wipes, disposable washcloths and/or hand sanitizer.

Please bring your own lunches, snacks, beverages etc. Bring water, while we do provide water, it never hurts to bring some more. There are picnic tables on the range as well, but you may want to bring your own folding chair for breaks.

Class Procedures

We will send a welcome packet to you prior to the class beginning via email. This will include directions to the range, range gate access code, and instructions for arriving at the class prepared.

This range is a cold range. No handling of firearms in the parking lot or classroom is permitted. If you arrive with your handgun holstered and loaded for street carry, please keep it holstered. We will assemble everyone on the firing line to handle firearms under instructor's commands. At the end of each day, we will do the same, allowing everyone to get loaded up with their desired carry before leaving the range.

The allowed shooting hours for this range are 8 am - 5 pm. We will move at a very swift pace to make sure all shooting is completed by 5 pm.

Please do not hesitate to contact us prior to the class if you have questions.
